Vickie,

I just wanted to tell you how much I enjoyed your performance today at the Central Presbyterian Church in Summit. It really brightened up the afternoon. I know the after performance time is very busy so I thought it best to send you this email with feedback instead of taking your time after the show. I love the way you create the show concepts like Satin Dolls. It is a great way to package the music into a cohesive program.  You also give people some background about the music you are singing. I think that really helps put things into context. Especially since this is music that most of your audience did not grow up with. Your audience learns about what they are hearing as well as enjoys the music. Your singing was great. Inventive, melodic, authentic, passionate and involving. I think that everyone can see how much you enjoy the music. I know you brought a lot of happiness to the people there today. The band sounded terrific. The Duke Ellington stuff really shined. It is a good mix with your style and your range. One of my favorites of the afternoon was the "doodling" song. Really interesting lyrics. I think that you have a very natural way with audiences. You are relaxed and your warmth and your comments help  the audience to feel relaxed as well.

I saw you for two sets last evening at The Priory. I truly enjoyed  you and your trio. You really seem to feel the music you perform. I loved  the scatting. In my opinion your voice is sort of a cross between Ella's and  Diane Schuur's. Hoping you have continue success in all your musical  endeavors.

Vickie...

First of all, please allow me to say what an utterly fantastic performer AND
interpreter of the "Great American Songbook" you are.  If Ella were still
around, she'd have something to worry about!

Secondly, your rendition of "Dedicated to You" was simply "awesome"...to use
the current popular colloquillism.  That song has been a personal favorite
of mine ever since I heard Johnny Hartman sing it with John Coltrane on
their only collaborative album.  I actually feel...and this is saying a
lot...that your interpretation is superior to theirs!  But then, being your
latest greatest fan, I may be prejudiced in that regard.

How you can look that good AND put that much energy, enthusiasm and creativity into an afternoon public library venue is beyond me.

Linda, Stan and I certainly enjoyed your show.  There's nothing like work to get you the experience of playing before an audience.  It is obvious you were having a great time entertaining the people.

I'm sure we will be coming to see you again.  We had a ball.

You look like you are having so much fun.  I'm glad you did a tribute to Ella Fitzgerald.  I did enjoy your show.   I brought my two youngest boys with me.  I try to expose them to jazz as much as possible.  That's what my Grandfather did for me.  I first met Count Basie
when I was about seven years old.  He was a friend of my Grandpa's as was Ella.  I never met Ella though.  My grandpa was raised by Bill Bojangels Robinson from the age of fourteen up and by hanging out at the Cotton Club he became friends with Dizzy and Nat and Lena, Cab Calloway and many others.   He used to travel with Nat King Cole and they were very close.  You said that your Grandparents introduced you to this music too.   Grandparents are wonderful people.

25 July 2003

Vickie, You really have a way of reaching out to your audience.  You're a good performer.  This goes further than someone just belting it out, be it great, along with a great band.  Keep up your great work!

You are absolutely great on the show Vickie.

You have that star thing - you are beautiful, have a great personality, and
you sing brilliantly.

You also have that jazz feel yet you still perform for the audience - what I
constantly preach to those jazz singers who are so introspective that their
work never gets to the reason they are there - the audience.

Congratulations - you make me sad I don't live in New York so we could work
together.

Love, Buddy

Bravo.  You have a very distinctive voice, somewhat deep (although it's very pretty in the upper registers), a lot of texture and shadings and very suitable for singing jazz (both swing and ballads).  Very good stage presence too.  Congratulations.
